The USS Intrepid (NCC-1707) was a Federation Constitution-class (Mk I Enterprise-subclass) class XI cruiser starship in service to Starfleet in the late 23rd century. The Intrepid entered service on stardate 2/1706 as a replacement for the previous USS Intrepid, which was lost in 2268. (Federation Ship Recognition Manual)

Service history

Construction history

Following the destruction of the original Intrepid by a space amoeba near the Gamma 7A star system in 2268, the Vulcans considered the best monument to the four hundred souls that had perished would be to construct a whole new starship which would bear the same name, Intrepid, and the same registry number of the lost vessel.

Using the basic Constitution-class heavy cruiser design as a template, the Vulcans perfected the details of construction way above the Starfleet standard. Starfleet was so impressed with the improvements made by the Vulcans, that they decided to roll out these changes across the Constitution-class fleet throughout the 2270s. Even so, the Vulcans continued to perfect the design of the Intrepid, shortening her warp nacelles and improving the power generation by 53% above a standard Constitution-class vessel such as the USS Enterprise. (Pocket TOS: My Enemy, My Ally)

Active service

Following her extensive construction, the Intrepid finally entered active service on reference stardate 2/1706, and was replaced under the command of Captain Suvuk, a former retired admiral who had served on dozens of cruises. (Pocket TOS: My Enemy, My Ally)

The Intrepid was docked at Earth Spacedock in 2286, and became trapped there when the Whale Probe disabled all Earth orbiting starships and space stations. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

The Intrepid wasn't named, but her registry number NCC-1707 was seen in two display panels that were prepared for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
